Custom Tuxedos

Custom-Made Tuxedos & Dinner Suits — Sydney's Black-Tie Specialists

A tuxedo is the pinnacle of formal menswear. When the occasion demands black tie — a wedding, a gala dinner, an awards ceremony, a milestone celebration — no garment commands a room like a custom-made tuxedo built to your exact measurements, your body and your occasion.

At Akkari Menswear, we create custom tuxedos and dinner suits for clients across Sydney by private appointment only. Every garment is approached with the same exacting attention to detail that defines our tailoring — from fabric selection through to the finishing of each individual buttonhole.

Tuxedo Lapel Styles

Shawl Lapel

The most traditional and enduring black-tie choice. A shawl lapel runs in a single, unbroken curve from the collar to the button — no notch, no break. It is the lapel of black-tie dinners, the opera and the most formal wedding celebrations. Elegant, understated and unmistakably correct.

Peak Lapel

A peak lapel points upward and outward from the button stance, creating a bold, structured silhouette with real authority. It is the modern gentleman's choice for black tie — sharper and more contemporary than the shawl, and equally appropriate across all formal occasions.

Grosgrain vs Satin Facings — Understanding the Difference

The facing on a tuxedo lapel, button and trouser stripe defines the character of the entire garment:

  • Grosgrain — a ribbed, matte silk facing with a subtle horizontal texture. Grosgrain has a quieter, more traditional formality. It does not catch the light. It is the purist's choice for black tie.
  • Satin — a smooth, high-lustre silk facing that catches and reflects light beautifully. Satin facings are opulent, contemporary and particularly striking in photography. A bolder, more dramatic statement.

Neither is more correct than the other — the choice is a matter of personal style and occasion. We will guide you through both during your consultation.

Beltless Trousers with Side Adjusters

Correct black-tie trousers have no belt loops. A single stripe of grosgrain or satin runs down each leg, and the waist is fastened with side adjusters — small fabric tabs that allow the waistband to be tightened or loosened with precision. This is not a style choice. It is correct black-tie construction, and it is the only way we cut formal tuxedo trousers.

The result is a cleaner, longer line at the waist — uninterrupted by loops or a belt — and a significantly more refined appearance.

Premium Fabrics for Black-Tie

Our tuxedos are crafted from fabrics sourced from the world's finest mills:

  • Loro Piana — midnight black and navy wools of extraordinary weight and drape
  • Dormeuil — storied formal fabrics with deep, rich colour saturation
  • Holland & Sherry — fine British and Italian formal cloths with unmatched heritage
  • Zegna — Italian luxury with a contemporary refinement
  • Wool-silk blends available for garments requiring additional sheen and fluidity

With over 5,000 fabrics to choose from across weights, weaves, colours and patterns, every client is guaranteed to find the perfect cloth for their garment — from the understated to the extraordinary.

Canvassed Construction & Handmade Buttonholes

Every tuxedo is constructed with half-canvas or full-canvas — never fused. The chest canvas is hand-stitched to float naturally against your body, moulding over time to your individual shape. Buttonholes are handmade, not machine-cut — a finishing detail that distinguishes a premium garment from everything else.

Our Measuring Process

We assess shoulder type (soft through to structured), armhole height, collar and neck posture, erect and natural posture, sleeve pitch and all body measurements — ensuring your tuxedo fits and moves perfectly whether you are standing, seated or moving through a room.

Book Your Bespoke Tuxedo Consultation

Every tuxedo we create is a fully bespoke, custom-made garment — drafted, cut and hand-finished from scratch to your individual measurements. Construction typically takes 3–5 weeks depending on fabric selection. For weddings and black-tie events, we recommend booking at least 2 to 2.5 months before your function date to allow time for construction, fitting appointments and any final adjustments.

All appointments are private and by booking only at 150 Parramatta Rd, Auburn. Call 0435 123 023 or email info@akkarimenswear.com.au.
